What does Royal Decree 56/2016 require?
Royal Decree 56/2016 transposes the European Energy Efficiency Directive and requires large companies to carry out an energy audit every four years.
The obligation applies to companies that are not SMEs, i.e. those with at least 250 employees or a turnover above 50 million euros and a balance sheet above 43 million.
The audit must cover at least 85% of the total energy consumption of the organisation’s facilities and transport, and must be kept available to the authorities, which may request it at any time.
