Water Management and Water Footprint
Assess the water use associated with your activity and reduce the pressure on water resources.
What is the water footprint?
The water footprint is an indicator that makes it possible to assess the water use associated with an organization's activities, products, or services, taking into account both direct and indirect consumption throughout its value chain.

The three colours of the water footprint
The Water Footprint Network (WFN) distinguishes three components of the water footprint according to the origin and use of water.
Blue water footprint
Associated with the consumption of surface water and groundwater.
Green water footprint
Linked to rainwater stored in the soil.
Grey water footprint
Related to the volume of water needed to assimilate the pollutant load until certain quality levels are reached.
The ISO 14046 approach
ISO 14046 sets out principles, requirements and guidelines for assessing the water footprint from a life cycle perspective, considering not only the use of the resource but also the potential environmental impacts associated with water.

What assessing the water footprint enables
Assessing the water footprint, both with the WFN approach and with ISO 14046, makes it possible to:
- ✓Identify the main water uses, both direct and indirect
- ✓Assess the impacts, risks and opportunities related to water
- ✓Establish measures aimed at improving the management of the resource
- ✓Reduce pressure on water resources
